My maternal grandmother |
For a few weeks I was almost sure I didn't want to do this anymore but I guess I've invested too much money in supplies to give up this scrapbooking hobby. So I am back with another layout.
I used 2 pieces of patterned paper for this one, both by MajaDesign. I mounted them onto a plain piece of cardstock for stability since I cut out the center of the purple backing piece.

I cut a wide strip of double edged lace netting down the center, mitered the corners and glued the pieces on the left of the purple piece of paper. I later took small pieces of this lace and tucked them into different areas of the layout. I glued a different piece of lace down the opposite side and added a narrow piece of trim on top.
I trimmed off some of the floral paper and distressed the edges by wetting them and gently rolling up the edges. I applied random patches of purple and black watercolour on this background, glued some little pearl beads, lavender coloured microbeads, little round painted metal pieces and bits of lace in a couple of the corners and then added a strip of mauve lace trim along the right edge.
I painted the chipboard pieces dark purple and applied Tim Holtz distress paint in Picket Fence. I then rubbed distress ink in Dusty Concord and Weathered Wood overtop, wiping off the excess.

Under the flower cluster I used a piece of loose weave burlap which I coated with diluted white paint.
The three brads along the right were painted with Vintaj Patina paints and lightly sanded. The centers are punched circles from the purple background paper.
Thanks for looking!
I am SO glad you are back Tracy!!! You are an amazingly TALENTED scrapper!! It is difficult in the highly competitive world of scrapping, with all of its trends, to sometimes feel that one's work is valued and appreciated. I have been in the exact same place you stated at the beginning of your post many times. One has to trust in ones own abilities and likes, that it should be enough, with nothing to prove to others. This is hard to do, I think most of us wish to appeal to a broad range of people, and want our work to be liked. Trust in your own strengths.
ReplyDeleteYou have come back with a "signature" layout of amazing beauty, filled with wonderful details. I ADORE it!! ( I may have to scrap lift it someday). The exquisite design, beautiful colors, attention to the little things......Gorgeous, elegant, incredible. Your work never fails to leave me speechless!!!
This is STUNNING Tracy!!! Natalie took the words right out of my mouth! This is definitely a signature piece of incredible art. I am in complete awe. And since purple is my most favorite color, this has REALLY taken my breath away. Phenomenal. The distressed chippie is fabulous and I LOVE the resin birds! Such innovatively designed, especially the lace and the paper rolling adds an extra vintage touch! And OMG - mitering the lace corners! WOW! You are a cut above with your uniquely creative and detailed abilities. Welcome back - I for one have MISSED YOU SO MUCH! xoxoxoxoxo
ReplyDeleteWow this is beautiful! I love all the little details that you are so perfect at. I'm glad you reconsidered and decided not to quit scrapping.
ReplyDeleteOh can I please encourage you to keep scrapping.. I love your creations.. this is stunning. love the purple shades, and the lace and texture and the amazing old photo.. l love this.. you inspire me!
ReplyDeleteOh Tracy, from a purely selfish standpoint, please do not stop scrapping. All your designs are so beautiful and include such detailed and unusual elements. Those of us that do this sort of thing know how long it takes and those that don't sometimes don't appreciate the effort that goes into it. But you need to do it for yourself and not for everybody else--although we would hate to lose you! You are so talented, so it would be a shame to hide your talent.
ReplyDeleteAww Gorgeous page Tracy!! I love all the details and the design. I understand you, I've been in the same position not sure if were same reasons but look at YouTube..Neil Gaiman- inspirational speech at the university of the arts.. Beautiful work as always!! ;) xxx
ReplyDeleteNice post!
