Notre Dame Cathedral

Notre Dame Cathedral in 1996

My husband and I got married in the Fall of 1995 and went on a belated honeymoon to Europe in the Spring of  '96. This is a photo of Notre Dame Cathedral that I took when we were in Paris.

For this layout I used a piece of Blue Fern Studios paper.

Serendipity - Imagination

I did some stencilling on the background with molding paste.  When the paste was still wet I embossed it with Bright White Wow! embossing powder.  It was a little too bright so I inked over it with turquoise and light brown chalk inks. The background was then splattered with watery turquoise and brown paints.

I also sprayed the edges of the paper with water and applied some of the watered down turquoise paint to give a soft watercolour effect.

These are the chipboard pieces I used:

I heat embossed the chipboard pieces with JudiKins Rustique Patina Bronze embossing powder.

Taking a Break

My son Colin in August 2017

For this layout I used a piece of 7 Dots Studio paper for the background.

I did some stenciling on the background with Mowed Lawn and Forest Moss Distress Inks using a Clarity stencil brush.

These are the chipboard pieces I used:

I coated the Ornate Corner #8, Flourish #8 and Fancy Trim #5 with clear gesso and then applied Finnabair  White Crackle  Texture Paste.  When that was dry, I rubbed the Ornate Corner #8 with Hickory Smoke Distress Ink and the other pieces with Forest Moss Distress ink, wiping off the excess with a damp paper towel.  I added some brown ink around the edges for definition.

I painted the cherry blossom branches a light brown then painted the flowers red.  I applied darker watery paint overtop of the branches to give them some visual dimension and on the edges of the flower petals to mimic the dark tips of the mulberry paper flowers. I glued some Express-O Yourself Prills in the center of some of the flowers.

I painted the chipboard leaves a medium green colour and then misted them with a darker green (Lindy's Stamp Gang Greased Lightnin' Green) while the paint was still wet to give them a mottled effect.

I layered most of the diecuts over a black version, offsetting them slightly to accentuate the edges. For the Flourish #13 leaves, I traced around the edges and along the veins with a black marker (Zig Writer).

I added some pieces of natural coloured reindeer moss to the flower clusters.
